search engines

Search engines don't really pinpoint anything any more. They give you thousands things to sift through yourself. A few will allow you to search the results, but you still have to do a lot of sifting to get down to what you are looking for.

I did a Google (advanced search, all of the words) for "gross green buggers" and it came up with 4930 hits. Most of them didn't actually have all three words, so it didn't do what it said it would.

I tried searching under "exact phrase" and it told me to check my spelling. That was encouraging, but I still didn't get any useful results.

I searched "vintage motor scooters" the other day and it covered me with a bunch of ads for those little 3-wheeled electric scoots for disabled people. None were vintage.

I've been going back to Dogpile a lot recently and that seems to work a little better. I still have to do a lot of sifting.

I have yet to find a search engine that can locate my blog, but I'm willing to wait a while on that.
