I guess that depends on what you consider "worthwhile", but certainly if you're dating and living apart you get some of the benefits of having a spouse while retaining the benefits (if you like that sort of thing) of living alone. It's also easier to break off a dating relationship than a marriage if it doesn't work out, but of course most people don't go into a relationship expecting it not to work.

But most importantly, a whole lot of people who date either don't have spouses or don't have gods. I didn't have either when I was dating mrs_bat. So I guess dating is a viable lifestyle choice for those people.
