Outlaws... can't put on disguise in hideout

I'm in the hideout. I've gotten the mustache but it always falls off, even though I've already put it to the wax. I can't do anything with the crown puzzle and nothing can help me on any floor. I've thought and washed my face hundreds of times but all it says is, "You need to put your mustache on". I've tried to make it as far as I can w/o begging for a hint, despite the little voice in my head nagging to get help, but I am completely stuck now.
