Ok, I'm know I'm missing something obvious since almost all the other people who asked for hints already had these 2 items but can anyone give me a hint in the right direction?

Fishing Pole
(and Gold Coin; I already gave her 3, is there a 4th?)
I think I will know what to do with the items if I find them, I just can't find them! Let's see: I've been through the garden and stood in front of the castle but can't get in; can't get in the fortress or the tower; been up and down the volcano but haven't done anything; gotten past the wood sprite to the man, but he won't tell me anything.
