Let's hear it for the Constitution. All of my life, I have been in awe of this document, that has worked so well for so long. However, I think that it is normal for us to slightly bend our understanding of the constitution to help it conform to changing times.

There must be things that our forefathers could not foresee. I doubt that "keep and bear arms" would have been written that way if they had known about AK47's RPG's. Arms, in those days, were black powder rifles with a maximum firing rate of two or three shots a minute, or a cannon that might be able to hit a nearby barn with a round iron ball.

I wouldn't touch the church and state thing with a ten-foot pole, but I could suppose that could stand a tiny bit flexing too.

I believe that "all men are created equal," which comes from another document, means that maybe we should allow prisoners of war to talk to a lawyer. Maybe we should take another look at imprisoning people without the benefit of a trial. We don't generally treat our own people like that.

I'll stop there. I seem to be showing signs of rambling and I am determined not to do that.
