Traffic accidents are a HUGE problem for teenagers (and I believe still the leading cause of death for like the 16-25 group), though most involve alcohol. And even if you don't die, there's still a lot of danger in driving. I think it's important that we don't discount how dangerous driving can be (and is for many people). IMO a better solution is to simply have tougher driving tests to get a license. One thing the new CA law did was to require people to have their permits longer and have more experience with that. I think that's a good thing, though I am opposed to frivolous things like placing a bunch of weird restrictions once people get the license.

well, i must say i'm not quite sure about the statistics, but....

right now, DC has the loosest driving laws in the US. all of my friends in Maryland have to take drivers ed before they get their license, plus their driving test is HARD. i have no problem with that. then the kida who are driving really can drive. but saying i can't carry more than family members and one other person for a year and a half after i get my license? it's just stupid
