I don't think you can get Kepler's key yet. A few other things have to happen first, one of which involves doing repairs on something that isn't part of the ship.

As for the dynamite, try wasting some more of it. Seriously. You might have to look for some more things to trade first. Have you explored very deep into the mines? You will have to do that.
