I think these problems will all be solved in the future, with much more specific ratings that tell you exactly who should and should not be watching the movie.

In Futurama, All My Circuts: The Movie was rated M-14, which meant "Not suitable for aliens from the planet M-14".

Seriously, though, I think it was mentioned earlier in this thread, but I'd like to know whether a movie got its rating for language, violence, sex or other content (e.g. on-screen use of narcotics). I don't think it would be such a big deal for movies to be rated something like "R (language), NC-17 (sex), G (violence)". They wouldn't have to change the system, just let us know how they would rate each aspect.

Maybe the reason they don't do this is because there are more and more single events that will earn a movie an "automatic" adult rating. This saves the ratings people the trouble of watching the rest of the movie or using any sort of discretion at all.
