The mere existence of a minuscule probability that something will happen becomes either much more exciting or much less exciting, after a few classes in quantum physics.

I don't think the more remote probability directly makes the game more attractive. I think all it does is allow the lotto to offer a higher jackpot. People play because there's some chance of winning a million (5-10 million is a big jackpot in Canada, but it's paid in one tax-free lump sum), not because the chance is remote.
