In my last couple of games (which admittedly were some time ago) I discovered that the town on level 4, whatever it's called, is not inconveniently far from level 10.

Also, single character parties almost never manage to pick up enough Items of Extra-Specialness to pay Teralt's prices for repeated untimely deaths.
