A quokka is a small furry animal found only in parts of Western Australia. It's particularly common on Rottnest Island, where it's physically impossible to take a photograph that doesn't have a quokka in it somewhere.
In fact, the island's named after the quokkas - the Dutch explorer who discovered the island felt that its most distinguishing feature was the large ratlike creatures everywhere. Maybe he was tired of them getting in his holiday snapshots.
