Help with Gwuils - Game Of The Ages

Help anyone please. I'm really stuck in Llagimlyn. I have the following:

20 bronze coins
guard's sword
tinderbox
piece of trash
magnifying glass

7 red gemstones
stone of strengthening
torch
crate
picture

3 black gemstones
food rations
key of opening
hammer

6 apples
rope
clear focus stone
map

I've run all over the city, the castle, the building, the cave tunnel, even back to earlier locations but nothing happens. How do I save the Gwuils and move on?
