it's been a very looong time since I've played this game. I think you need to find a dining hall to eat that sandwich. so much of this game is about timing.
so, once you accomplish something else, it changes what's available for you to do in other places. everything happens in it's own place & time.I hope this helps some.
when the timing is right, you can get the nerds from the shack to the junkyard, w/o going outside.
