You don't need to get the nerds to the promised land til Sunday, and you will not find an alternate route til after completing Prof. Major's task. As for a T-shirt, you got your things out of your car, what do you want a T-shirt for?
Go pick up your course textbooks and pay a visit to each of your professors (once you've enrolled for classes, of course). It might not hurt to get on your professors' good sides early - it may require some insane favors, but it'll be worth it.
