You're going the right way. Just make sure you make it in as little moves as possible - use those platforms outside the valley to cut it down, don't make a wrong turn, and you can get there in time. (Keep in mind that once you get to the grapefruit tree, you're only two moves away from the bridge.)

But the route you're taking is the correct one. Just make sure you aren't taking unnecessary steps, and always use the platforms.
