I'm guessing you're referring to TOA (the name of the game helps !)
before your ID card, you're going to have to find shelter for the night.
a little vandalism would be a good idea here. keep throwing rocks wherever the option comes up. eventually, things will start to happen !
making a map as you go is pretty much essential for these games, when you need to get back to somewhere you've already been.
