Don't worry about the stone head - you have to use it at the very end. About the combination to the sphinx use a book in a special place. You are able to find the secret laboratory after you get the sphinx. But I don't remember what was the gold key for - it could be for something in the secret lab, but I'm not 100% sure about that...
