Actually, you somehow missed a good deal of posts on this topic. Trust me, you are not the first. Not by a long shot.

Here's the trick. Count how many times you have to wait before a guard passes by. Notice that there's a certain number of moves you have to wait?

To actually get his attention, though, don't throw the rock as he's passing by, he'll miss it entirely. You need to do it JUST BEFORE he comes by to ensure he'll come check it out and you can jump him.

Same principle applies to attracting the other guard... you just need to wait longer. :)
