Thanks- it took me forever to kill the cat, but I finally did it, and went to the island. I've done a few more things now... killed the vampire, healed the centaur/tree, killed the lion quite thoroughly.... Here's my new inventory:
19 Onions
Silver Key
Sap Tap
Roc Feather
Pliers

Sack
Crown of Destiny
Bucket of Sap
Coconut
Iron Support

Small Silver Coin
Float Ring
Cross
Blue Rubber Ball
Sunstone

I've tried to go everywhere again... With little luck...
