Actually, if you're trying to get UP the tower, the bookcase is the only thing that DOESN'T work in that respect. What if you tried everything BUT the bookcase til you got results? :) You NEED to get up there. Hint. Hint. (Guess where that dagger is? ;) )

Incidentally, if you haven't been in the garden yet, you've missed a massive chunk of the game. Go back to where you started and search the first couple of screens til you find something shiny and silver. Then go bribe a unicorn and hitch a ride.
