Like the other fights at level 10, he didn't (couldn't!) use aggressive magic, just "bodyarmor" at first opportunity, then normal combat. Except I fib there, he did in fact invoke a certain item that he would never need again, and saved a few rounds of fighting.

It just happened that he couldn't get to the gatekeeper until he had "restore" (which came very late); once he had it, he also had enough hit and spell points to be ready for Level 7.

Wow! That is surely one mighty adventure!
I have beaten Murkon three times, every time with a full party of 6 characters. I've mostly been able to take care of Murkon's henchmen with about 5-8 rounds of triple QUAKE, and on Murkon himself I have used Samurai Swords (or a Blade of Power if I've been lucky enough to find one) for several dozen rounds.
I would face Murkon a fourth time, since this is a really great game, but I already have the full compliment of 18 characters and I'm loath to destroy any of them, or make another player.
Sam told us the "sequel" (if you can call it that) to MR will be appearing this year. I'm eagerly awaiting it. VERY eagerly.
