Thanks to everyone for their help. In case anyone else is stuck the same way, you'll find the Gatekeeper's Key after slaying the Gatekeeper. Make sure you have a tough, experienced party as the Gatekeeper (aka Ceratil - see the story) has a good escort.

This, hopefully, will tell people what they're looking for without giving away the secret - the sort of information I was looking for. If this is of value to you, please reply!
