Never mind about accumulating things which you've seen other people have. You find things in stages, generally, as you progress through new areas. How many coins have you given the soothsayer so far? Do a search on "coins" here and there are some very useful threads (especially by mandichaos) where you can find hints about where to look for the ones you haven't found yet.

Have you been to the farmhouse yet (near where you got the onions)? The dwarf is around there. You also have what you need to get past the thing stopping you getting into the forest. It's an ogre or a cyclops or something, I can't remember exactly.
