GOA - Beginning w/ dead fish + no dagger

Hi all,

FQ1 + FQ2 was awesome.

Now I've started GOA.

I think I should've read the difficulty level, hahaha, I feel kinda dumb not being able to get a dagger or something sharp to get the rope from the bucket. I've already fished up the dead fish from the well. I've also been to the Idiot's house.

My items are:

384 Silver Coins of Wealth
Pick
Life Preserver
Dead Fish
Diving Mask
Key of Questioning
Food Rations

Do the cobblestones in the canal do anything?
How do I get this "free trial sword"?
I keep on telling the weapons keeper I want something lower but he won't give me anything.
