Hm, I thought the peryolitium key was in Kepler's room. Guess not.
Okay, you've managed to take the mine cart southeast past the barrier, flipped the switch and jumped off it again to reach an area of the caverns where you found stalagmites, a peryolitium shard, the pillar, and the pipe that takes you back to where the guy with the broken cart was, correct?
Notice that when you got off the cart, it was still moving down the narrow railway. In fact, you could still hear it rattling through the cavern. What you're going to have to do is hurry around and hop onto the cart again when it comes out of the low passage you couldn't ride into. The railway will take you over the chasm and to the area where the sandstone caverns are; you can park it once you're across the chasm and get to the caverns on foot.
As for the sandstone caverns: I won't totally spoil it here. You DEFINITELY need to map the caverns out, but keep in mind this time the map is 3-D: the caverns consist of 4 levels, one on top of each other, with four rooms apiece. You can tell what level you're on by the color of the rock, and map out whether or not certain paths slope downward. Take your time and map every room in the caverns, even after you've freed the miner: you're going to have to play catch-the-cart again through the caverns later on.
Post again when you've found the miner and need something else to free him with; I needed a hint for this, and I've spoiled enough in this one post. :)
