1. Desert? There's no desert in the tunnel, only one I know of is outside the caves. No, its not the secret area, when you find it the game will call it the secret area (or was it Secret Room, I'm not sure).

2. No, the tunnel itself doesn't lead anywhere.

3. Lessee there's the tavern, the shack, the moat...
