There has been a lot of talk about desensitisation, and how our overexposure to gruesome scenes on an almost daily basis has increased our tolerances for shock and disgust. Here's a task for those who have grown up around gore. Think back, way back, to a moment in which you were genuinely unsettled by the amount of claret on display on some screen.

Staying on-topic, I found the media furore over Spider-Man being "The most violent children's movie ever" a little bit too hard to swallow. I still reckin that the most disturbing and violent imagery ever has to be found in the cartoon Tom & Jerry. For sheer density of violent confrontation, decapitations, and general nastiness, it can't be beaten.
