In Australia (NSW & ACT at least, Vic has Prep which is same thing) it refers to the first year of school.

This is a starting point for finding out about teaching positions in NSW, every state will have an equivalent site, you can find it through Google, my search was: Australia "New South Wales" education employment government

Also, try http://www.theage.com.au
http:www.smh.com.au

sam"recommends the Central Coast of NSW: sunny beaches, surf, beaches, relaxed atmosphere, beaches, mild climate, beaches... oh, did I mention the beaches?"hael

Oh, and is your friend worried about getting a working visa/ migration to Australia? Offer to teach in country areas. The country is desperate for teachers, and they'll probably take her gratefully, despite our prehistoric immigration policy. Sad but true.
