D'oh! Yeah, the Muppets rule. Their new stuff is rather, well, dreck, but the classics will live forever. The Muppets Take Manhatten? Brilliant. Muppets in Space? Nah. The Muppet Show? Yes, please (well, we all know that wasn't technically a movie, but without a doubt the greatest part of the Muppet legacy).

My favorite thing about the Muppets is that so many of them appear outside of specifically "Muppet" things. I mean, the real Muppet group in my mind is comprised of Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Fozzie, Rowlf, Skeeter, Rizzo, Animal, Sam the Eagle, the Swedesh Chef, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, Beaker, Dr. Teeth, and of course Sweetums. Well, I'll include Statler and Waldorf, because everybody's got to love them. But look at all the "other" Muppets created for shows like Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock! Or how about the characters (I call them Muppets) in the old Star Wars movies, most namely Yoda... And I always liked that big-eared bat thing with the beak in Return of the Jedi -- he doesn't do much of anything other than laugh insanely at the heroes when Jabba does bad stuff to them. What a great guy. Then there was that animated kids TV show, Muppet Babies, which was obviously the byproduct of an overactive imagination on LSD, so do yourself a favor and pretend it never existed.
