Now that it's starting to get warmer, the grease ants are coming into the cooler house. Grease ants, for those luckily unaquainted with them, are absolutely miniscule, reddish-brown...uh...ants...that eat...uhm...greasy stuff. Of course, the pantry is their favorite place to be. This is NOT a good place for grease ants if you are a human, particularly if you happen to store things there such as peanut butter, potato chips, oil--you know, nice greasy things. This is even worse if you should happen not to see them in whatever they are in and then proceed to eat it.

I like peanuts and usually have a plastic canister with a snap-on lid of them on hand. I had eaten a handful of nuts and was chewing on them when I looked down at the container and realized that is was FULL of ants. Not a just a couple, but LEGIONS. So I spit out the nuts and was grossed out for a while. I thought later that I should have saved them for my brother's Boy Scout friend who eats aphids.

The VERY NEXT DAY, I wanted some raisins for my peanut putter sandwich (I said I like peanuts). We usually keep the peanut butter in the pantry so it's easier to spread, but the ants had been getting in, even through a couple of Ziplocks, so we moved it to the fridge. Anyway, I put the raisins on and had taken a couple of bites when I saw the raisins were covered in ants. (I've kept raisins in that spot for two years and never once have they been bothered.) Little stinkers.

There has to be a better way for me to get my protein.
