Near end, help!

I have almost beaten the game but I can't open any cells. I read that I should be patient with my tools but I stood at a cell and used them like 20 times and nothing happened. I also read that I need a shield and if so, WHERE IS IT!!! I've been all over the dungeon and haven't found squat.
