I think, in this case, she's better off going in nigh-naked than she would be heavily armoured; it's a *dragon.* No amount of wearing armour is going to keep her from dying for one little second if the dragon gets her. *Not* wearing armour makes her more mobile, and gives her a better chance of dodging the dragon's attacks long enough to get her shot in.

Which is, of course, a bit of an extension of why armour went out to begin with - firearms (even crappy ones) totally outmoded it. Since no amount of armour would save you against a gun, people eventually gave up armour altogether in favour of speed and dodging.

And also, of course, this whole thing goes out the window if you bring magic armour into it. But I'm not willing to allow that in this particular line of logic, since magic is by nature alogical. And, anyhow, if she could have magic plate of dragonproofness, I suppose she could just as easily have a magic bikini or tunic of dragonproofness. Or magic tattoos, for that matter.
