When you say the gypsy, do you mean the soothsayer? She will give you something that will allow you to get into the south fortress along with something else. But it sounds like you have a few other things to do. Maybe you should relax a bit and go fishing. That might also help you with the other gold piece. If you need help with that, just ask. Then you have to do something with that fish to get something else which will get you into the south fortress. That's what it sounds like you have left until entering. Hope it helps. Luckily, with this game, you can get more help with it (well, I find since you have to do certain things).
