It's not only doable, it's been done. Murkon has (apparently) been beaten by a single level 0 character. He's the one in the hall of fame as a single level 30 character. That's how much experience you get from killing Murkon.

Perhaps you'd get fewer experience if you scared Murkon's minions away instead of killing them. That's certainly worth a try, if your character is resilient enough to take the time to do that. Someone should try taking a single level 0 character, and beating *only* Murkon himself. That would have to be the ultimate in low-level play.
