No explanation, but I'm the same way, and it's puzzled me. That is, if you mean that you comprehend words better by reading them than by listening to them. I am quite good at picking up musical kinds of nuances, such as accents in languages, but I've never been able to listen to something spoken or read aloud for long without losing track of it. When my dad used to read to us, I would insist on sitting by him so I could read along.

For me, at least part of the problem is that my mind wanders when I'm listening. Is that what happens to you? I also think visual skills in the artistic sense fall under a different category from the symbol-translating that one does while reading. (Those who know what they're talking about may correct me here.) In fact I think someone said something to that effect elsewhere in this thread. So it might be that you're very good at reading specifically, but that that doesn't have any connection to skill in the visual arts.
