Kyeheh. When you're trying to work your way through level four, and don't have any homing stones, but have lots of money, getting yourself killed will become a perfectly reasonable way of getting back to town, it will.
You -will- need a Sorcerer, though. Absolutely. You need ways of taking out large groups of monsters quickly.
Later on, you'll need more than one, but by then, you should be using at least one Druid, so s' all good.
And now I have to go back and kill everything on level 6 again, I'm getting slaughtered on level seven. Stupid monsters.
