Now that would rule. What if laser eye surgery
actually meant that the surgeon was installing
lasers in your eye so you could zap things with
them? I bet more people would be getting the
surgery.

Of course you know what would happen next.
Myriads of special interest groups would start
popping up and protesting the new crop of
people with laser eyes. They'd claim it was as
bad as allowing people to carry concealed
weapons around, and then we'd start seeing
laser eye control legislation in congress. The
NLEA (National Laser Eye Association) would
oppose this vehemently.

Criminals would start getting lasers in their
eyes, forcing law enforcement agencies to
develop and start using "blast armor" instead
of bullet-proof vests. Cops would have to start
getting the surgery; eventually it'd be a
requirement for joining the force.

As time went on, the technology would
improve and people would be able to start
using their eyes to flip through TV channels,
open their garage doors, or access their bank
accounts. The cost would go down too, and
laser eyes would become a household item,
available for everybody. You'd see rednecks
putting away their rifles and shooting beer
cans off of fences with their eyes instead.
