It always surprises me that people often underestimate the caffiene content of beverages, especially tea (which is, depending on the brew) fairly close to a cup of coffee.

An interesting story from my pre-University days was when I visited my elder brother in Glasgow; we went on a night out and, the next morning, we were somewhat the worse for wear. So, my brother gave me a cup of "Macintosh No 4 blend" to wake me up - the result being that I was bouncing off of the walls for the rest of the day.

Macintosh No. 4 was the product of Alan Macintosh, a postdoctoral researcher at Strathclyde Uni, who mixed very good quality coffee with high purity caffeine from the lab (roughly quadrupling the caffiene content).

Rumour had it that Alan didn't sleep for two years...
