The Star Trek tiered chess sets appear for auction every so often, but they never sell well with the chess enthusiasts.

In 1998, according to the CHESS magazine I was reading earlier, an indian chess piece, presumed to be a Knight (and, oddly enough for a piece at auction, no provenance) sold for just over 1500 pounds.

Personally I have a £10 chess set from WHSmiths and a set of Go stones sold to me for £30 in London last year. But then again, I don't really have the capital or desire to invest in antiquities like that...
