We don't have that problem half so much in Britain, mainly because pretty much all the cars here have a manual transmission. I think it's true that an American driving license won't work in Britain because of this; people who can drive an automatic car often can't drive a manual one. Of course, there's no rule saying that if you can drive a car with manual transmission you can drive an automatic...
