Fantasy quest, still stuck

I know that I am supposed to find a book that will help me get the jeweled dagger I need to get into the castle, but I can't find a book. When I go into the white tower and touch the bookcases, I end up outside again.

Also, I think there's something at the volcano I need to find but none of the options is allowing me to find anything. Could someone please give me a hint? Thanks!
