Fantasy Quest help

I am incredibly stuck on Fantasy Quest. I have
been everywhere on the map possible and
can't get any farther. My inventory is:

sack
rope
sword
hammer
club
silver coin
branch
diamond
bow
carrot
silver key
shovel
arrow

I can't do anything with the dog, the lonely old
man, or the soothsayer. I'm pretty sure the dog
belongs to the old man but can't get the dog to
follow me no matter how much I pet and throw
the branch. Please help. Thanks in advance.
