Uh. Which alternate timeline do you live in again? I remember exactly two wars in which the British "invaded" through Canada, and technically, we won both of them, although we took quite a beating in the war of 1812.

But either way, it's fundamentally different. When you're in the US, and you go picking fights with Great Britain, you pretty much expect the British to come down from Canada to attack you. It's not like we created a Maginot Line at the Mexican border and then got all shocked and appalled when the British steamrolled down from Canada.
