Being a Mac user, I've only witnessed an hard drive format... Three or four time in the last nine years or so. a few were on an added-on drive that ultimatly failed due to hardware problems, one was when a friend loaned another his computer and wanted to make sure she wasn't getting anything confidential, and that's about it... We stopped formatting floppies when PC exchange started being standard, a few year back, and we practically stopped using them earlier this year (Our workhorse comp doesn't have a 3.5 drive)

As a friend of me once wrote on his website "It might crash every once in a while too, but when I turn my Mac on, I know my data's there."

Well, not saying that wintel PCs don't have good points too. Just that I prefer macs.
