As someone who has just made this transition, I can tell you that pretty soon, you quit being scared and start wondering where to come up with quarters for the washers and dryers and other basic logistics of life.

If you have to, immerse yourself in your studies, but if you can cook at all, you'll find that people gravitate toward good smells coming from a kitchen. What's more, they want to become good friends with the person producing the good smells. Trust me on this one.

And be sure you listen to kokanee about the bookstore. It's a jungle in there the first few days.

But in the end, how much you enjoy college depends on the attitude with which you approach it. If you go in dreading it, you'll be miserable. If you can manage at some point to say, "Oooh, yay! I get a new perspective on daily life," then you end up in a much better position. And that's the end of my lecture. :)
