Around here, it's just in the summer months (that is, May-August) that barefoot pedestrian activities are advisable (that is, comfortable -- although there's a homeless person here in Oslo who walks barefoot all year round, or at least he used to, but there was a newspaper article about him recently (because the IRS (isn't that the proper acronym for the evil tax department?) wanted something like $40.000 in taxes from him for the last ten years, although he hasn't earned one single buck (other than what he has received from people in the streets, which isn't much, because he doesn't beg for money)), and in that article he had actually gotten himself a pair of sneakers -- but I digress), and this summer, I noticed that when I walked barefoot on asphalt or grass or anything not gravelly (although gravel isn't bad as long as the pebbles are rounded and not sharp-edged) but with some unevenness to it (as opposed to smooth floor, for example), it actually felt good not only in my feet, but all through my body. After about a year or so in shoes, my feet revelled in the freedom. That's when I realized that foot zone therapy must have something to it.
