I don't have any stories about a bus breakdown on the way to/from camp, but I was once on a bus during a field trip when the engine began overheating.

Once, on a field trip, the bus I was on was on its way back to school after we finished seeing what the teachers took us to see. The bus had a couple of miles left before reaching the school when the bus engine started to overheat.

The driver turned right, into a parking lot, and then he waited for the engine to cool. When it didn't cool after several minutes, he used the radio on the bus to contact the district's transportation department. The district sent another bus to where we were, and we all went onto that bus and rode on it for the last couple of miles.

Incidentally, I don't remember where we went on that field trip. I went on field trips to two different places in 8th grade (the grade I was in when that happened) and it could have been either one of these two places.
