One thing I do sometimes when I need to and it's possible to do so, is use sign language to "hold" numbers while I do other calculations. See, each hand can hold one number, so I basically tell one hand to do the sign for one number, and the other hand to do the sign for the other number, and they hold the numbers while I stop thinking about them. Then all I have to do is remember what each hand was for. :-D
