> hey guys. I don't know if there was thread on this earlier. Who can tell me where Hax0r talk comes from? All this l337 and W00t! business has me pretty confused. What the heck does w00t! mean anyway? If you spend any amount of time playing games online, you can't help but start to wonder after a while. It would r0x0r if someone could clear it up. Thanks!

One theory: a small amount h4XX0r talk originates when somebody tries to type very fast in order to keep up with the flow of the conversation. If his or her right hand's fingers are all shifted to the left one key, and he or she tries to type "Woohoo!", It'll come out "Wiigii!"

Now, "Wiigii!" doesn't sound too bad as a made-up word, and probably made the typist's chums laugh. "Wiigii" might become sort of an in-joke. Said chums will use "Wiigii" elsewhere without explaining its meanings or origins. Eventually, "Wiigii" has grown into a phrase recognized many placed on the internet.

As for letter/number, k/x and s/z swaps, that's just someone trying to sound cool the only way they know how. I think.
