Maui has two very interesting roads. One that is not to be missed is the road to Hana and the Seven Pools. Go west from Kahului on hwy 36 and 360. Gas up before you go, and a picnic lunch is highly recommended. They have improved the road enough to take some of the adventure out of it, but don't miss it if you can.
The other is the road around the north side of the North Maui Mountains. Drive north from Kapalua and don't turn back. You'll come back to civilization at Wailuku. There is one place on the route where only the driver's eyes should be open, and nobody should breathe too hard. You will know it when you get there. Never mind what they tell you, it is paved all the way.
Don't forget to drive to the top of the volcano. It's breath taking in more ways than one.
